About Department of Preventive Medicine
The Department of Preventive Medicine was first established in 1958 as the “Department of Hygiene” (with Professor Gyu-Sang Cho as a founding chair) and was renamed the “Department of Preventive Medicine” in 1960, continuing to the present day. (Currently, Professor Hyun-Woo Lim serves as the department chair.)
Preventive medicine is a discipline that aims to prevent and manage health issues in populations through a multidisciplinary approach, utilizing both medical and social science methods. Our department systematically explores the theory and practice of preventive medicine through education and research in key areas such as epidemiology, healthcare management and medical law, and environmental and occupational health. Through these efforts, we aim to train healthcare professionals equipped with the expertise and sense of public responsibility required in the healthcare field, while contributing to the promotion of public health and the development of a sustainable healthcare system.
