About Department of Medical Humanities and Social Sciences
The Department of Medical Humanities and Social Sciences aims to cultivate healthcare professionals with a holistic understanding of humans and medicine, grounded in Catholic values. To nurture compassionate caregivers who empathize with patients’ suffering and possess a sense of social responsibility, the department systematically implements an omnibus curriculum across all academic years.
Alongside the omnibus curriculum, the department conducts in-depth research in medical humanities, including medical philosophy, medical ethics, medical sociology, and the history of medicine. Through meta-reflection on medicine, it critically examines the past and present, exploring human- and society-centered alternatives grounded in Catholic values to contribute to the advancement of Korean healthcare and, more broadly, the public good in Korean society.
