Department of Otorhinolaryngology

About Department of Otorhinolaryngology

The Department of Otorhinolaryngologywas established on February 20, 1958, at Seongmo Hospital, affiliated with the College of Medicine, Seongshin University, with Professor Kim Jung-hwan serving as the inaugural chair and head of the department.


Subsequently, otorhinolaryngology departments were established at five additional affiliated hospitals: St. Paul’s Hospital, St. Mo Ja-ae Hospital, St. Ga Hospital, St. Vincent’s Hospital, and Daejeon St. Mary’s Hospital. With the openings of Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital in 1980 and Uijeongbu St. Mary’s Hospital in 1993, the department expanded to a total of eight affiliated hospitals. Currently, 38 faculty members and 40 residents work within the department.


The department was founded to conduct research and treatment of diseases related to otorhinolaryngology, as well as to provide education for medical students and residents. Under the guidance and responsibility of the department chair, each hospital provides education, research, and clinical care in the fields of otology, rhinology, and head and neck surgery.
