Founded in November 1960, the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery has trained over 600 specialists since graduating its first board-certified orthopaedic surgeon in 1965. As Korea’s largest orthopaedic department, it comprises 72 faculty members across 8 subspecialties—spine, shoulder & elbow, knee, hip, hand, tumor, pediatric, and foot & ankle—working in 8 affiliated hospitals. The department is committed not only to clinical care but also to education and research, publishing over 50 papers annually in SCI and SCIE journals, with efforts spanning both basic and clinical research. Guided by a dedication to relieve patients suffering from musculoskeletal disorders and trauma, the department continually strives for excellence and contributes to the advancement of medical science.
