Department of Medical Lifescience

About Department of Medical Lifescience

The Department of Medical Lifescience was established in September 2010 with the goal of strengthening research competitiveness at the Catholic University of Korea College of Medicine and leading education and research in the field of convergent medical science. It was created through the integration of the Department of Natural Sciences, Department of Medical Statistics, Molecular Genetics Research Center, Cell and Tissue Engineering Research Center, Immunobiology Research Center, and Cancer Research Center. Today, the department comprises 17 distinguished faculty members specializing in various fields, including regenerative medicine, cell and tissue engineering, molecular medicine, medical statistics, gene and cell therapy, and medical imaging, making it the largest among basic medical science departments.

The Department of Medical Lifescience carries out interdisciplinary and convergent research beyond the traditional boundaries of basic medical science. It publishes high-quality academic papers annually and continuously trains outstanding master’s and doctoral students who will lead the future of medical science. Through faculty workshops, academic symposia, and regular seminars, the department fosters communication and knowledge sharing among its members. By introducing integrated education models, multidisciplinary research, and basic-clinical collaborative research models that respond to societal changes, the department leads innovation in basic medical research and the integrated development of medical education.
