Body Donation

What is Body Donation?

Body donation is the act of donating one’s body after death, without conditions, to a medical school for anatomical study and research to advance medical science.
Donation is possible in cases of natural death or non-communicable diseases such as cancer. Body donation requires the agreement of both the donor and their family, and a family member’s handwritten consent is required when completing the application form. When the registered donor passes away, only the immediate family—not third parties—must report the death in order for the donation process to proceed. If the donor passes away in a hospital, the family must provide a death certificate. If the donor passes away at home, the family must obtain a post-mortem examination certificate from a nearby hospital emergency room or clinic before the medical school can receive the body. Body donation is entirely voluntary and carries no obligation. It is based solely on the donor’s free will and may be canceled at any time, even after registration.
Committed to Training Medical Professionals with a Strong Sense of Mission
Guided by the spirit of education, research, and service, the Catholic University College of Medicine is dedicated to training capable physicians who care for those suffering from illness. With clinical practice and field training offered across eight affiliated hospitals with more than 5,000 beds—the largest in Korea—the College produces good doctors who combine medical knowledge with clinical skill and serve society. Moving forward, it will continue to nurture and send forth outstanding physicians, devoting itself wholeheartedly to patient care and healing.
Be a Light of Life for the World
Body donation, the act of entrusting one’s body without conditions, is a true practice of love. It provides medical students and clinical professors with invaluable hands-on learning opportunities and advances medical knowledge and practice. We invite you to become a light of life, helping to raise the standards of medicine and ultimately contribute to a society free of disease. We sincerely thank all those who have donated their bodies to the Catholic University College of Medicine, and we pledge to ensure that their noble intent shines forth as we advance medical care for the betterment of society.
