About Catholic Brain Bank
Neurodegenerative diseases refer to a group of disorders characterized by the gradual loss of structure and function of neurons in the brain. These include Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), frontotemporal dementia, multiple system atrophy, and spinocerebellar ataxia, among others.
With the rapid aging of the global population, the number of patients suffering from neurodegenerative diseases continues to rise each year, leading to significant social and economic challenges. Despite this growing burden, no fundamental cure has yet been established for these diseases.
The Catholic Brain Bankaims to advance research on neurodegenerative diseases by collecting brain resources and distributing them to qualified researchers. Through these efforts, the Bank contributes to the development of effective treatments and the advancement of medicine and biomedical science, ultimately working to promote public health and well-being.
