About Pharmacometrics Institute for Practical Education and Training
The Pharmacometrics Institute for Practical Education and Training (PIPET), founded in 2014, is Korea’s first dedicated research institute specializing in pharmacometrics. Over the past decade, it has played a pioneering role in advancing pharmacometrics in Korea. Established in response to the rapid expansion of the domestic drug development industry and the growing importance of individualized drug therapy in clinical practice, PIPET positioned pharmacometrics—a central discipline within clinical pharmacology—as its primary area of research.
Drawing on the extensive pharmacometric research and industry–academia collaborations carried out by faculty members of the Department of Pharmacology at the Catholic University of Korea College of Medicine, PIPET was launched with a clear mission: to deliver advanced services and to cultivate trusted experts in the field.
Currently, PIPET engages in a wide range of core activities, including refining pharmacometric methodologies, adopting advanced pharmacometric techniques, developing user-friendly pharmacometric software, and establishing quantitative evidence to guide drug therapy in both drug development and clinical settings. Furthermore, through academic degree programs, professional education programs for pharmaceutical industry personnel, and regular pharmacometrics workshops, the institute is actively fostering a new generation of pharmacometric specialists in Korea.
In close collaboration with the Department of Clinical Pharmacology at Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, PIPET has built an efficient and integrated research system that enables seamless data acquisition and interpretation. Leveraging this system, the Institute continues to contribute to the advancement of domestic drug research and the optimization of drug therapy.
At this new turning point, the Institute has been renamed the Catholic Clinical Pharmacology Institute and is evolving beyond pharmacometrics into a comprehensive clinical pharmacology platform organized into four specialized divisions. By advancing into cutting-edge research areas such as Model-Informed Drug Development (MIDD), innovative clinical trials, data science, and multidisciplinary research, the Institute aims to lead a new paradigm in clinical pharmacology in the era of AI, digital health, and big data.
