The Department of Humanities and Social Medicine was established in September 2006 to train health professionals with the Catholic spirit. Humanities and Social Medicine curriculum developed by the OMNIBUS process has been training for the Catholic University School of Medicine students.

Humanities and Social Medicine is breaking the vision of traditional biomedical. Reductive logic and understanding of the holistic·sociocultural·and spiritual dimension and to restore an integrated perspective on this.

Humanities and Social Medicine researches in nature of the medicine and history including medicine·medical practice·medical treatment, socio-cultural background and impact of disease, the patient's physical·social · spiritual dimensions, the trust relationship between the patient and the physician, the patient and the disease and/or medical professionalism in the society including the duties and responsibilities of health professionals.

This relies on communication between the Humanities and Social Science fields including anthropology, literature, sociology, philosophy, theology, and law, among others, as well as between science fields related to Health Care including medical science, in order to verbalize and reorganize the basic concept of health care.

Humanities and Social Medicine through an interdisciplinary approach, physicians are based on the multidimensional understanding of medicine covering medicine·medical practice·medical treatment to recover the holistic view of the patient, and to have responsibility and pride as a medical profession seeking for the true physician specialized in occupational medicine.

The main research topics are the occupational medicine, health and society, ethics, philosophy, medical history, a medical narrative, Humanities and Social Medicine Teaching Methodology.
