Department of Radiation Oncology
Department of Radiation Oncology was established in 1983.
The department conducted the first radiotherapy in Korea using a linear accelerator (NEC 6MV) in March 1983. Since then, we have introduced a computer-controlled digital linear accelerator (Simens 6MV, 10MV), a CT Simulator from Picker Inc., a 3-D Planning computer for radiotherapy (Helax TMS), equipment for High-Dose-Rate Brachytherapy (MicroSelectron HDR), among other innovations, and are utilizing for the radiotherapy currently.
In particular, we are anticipating using Cyberknife, which is to get set up in September 2003 a cutting-edge technique which identifies focal lesions in the patient using Real-Time Image Guidance Technology and irradiates them using a computer-controlled robotic arm equipped with a linear accelerator through Dynamic Tracking System.
