Since the end of the 20th century as the computer appeared one after another by being the latest medical equipment, such development made rapid and accurate diagnosis and treatment of disease possible.

As a result, the medical community was expecting a medical engineers and medical physicists to improve existing medical equipment and research more innovative medical equipment. Knowledge and new technology, reserch, education and information exchange in medical engineering and medical physics fields has been desperately needed for successful performance.

The department is the only one specialized research organization and educational institution of radiation medical engineering in the country, practice clinical medical engineering and clinical medical physical science through School of medicine and department of medical life science and conducting a differentiated education compared to other institutions to train leading medical engineers and medical physicists in Korea.

In addition, we committed to research and education aiming the development of innovative medical equipment and clinical support, and technology development participating through national research laboratory, BK21 project, etc. at the major national research projects as a leading domestic radiation engineering field.
