DEPARTMENT
The Biochemistry Department was opened with the first biochemistry class by Professor Sim Bong-seop in April 1956 for the basic medical research and education when the first student, who had entered the Songsin medical school in May 1954, started their first year in regular course of medical school.
The department research the development of the medical biochemistry and molecular biological mechanisms involved in the life processes and disease, and training leading physicians in the field of medicine and the life sciences and contribute in human health and medical development throughout the basic medicine and translational research.
Major research topic is in inflammatory signaling, inflammatory gene expression, arthritis, anti-inflammatory recombinant proteins, oxidative stress, apoptosis, oxidative cell response, metabolic disease, stem cell differentiation, control of carcinogenic gene function, control of carcinogenic gene expression, oncogenesis , RNA metabolism, disease-related gene regulation.
